About Us
Open Repository
Open Repository is an online digital archive service used to preserve and showcase the intellectual output of an organization. Open Repository can store a wide variety of data types and has been used across many different industries, from the intellectual output of universities to the large datasets stored by museums.
BioMed Central developed the concept of Open Repository in the summer of 2004. As a pioneer of the open access movement BioMed Central identified the demand within the community for a repository service and Open Repository was launched.
Despite the software costs involved in building a repository being relatively low there are many additional issues, such as staffing and upgrade costs, that make running an in house repository solution both a costly and time consuming activity. Due to this many organizations have chosen to take advantage of BioMed Central’s existing infrastructure and open access knowledge when setting up their repository.
Using the open source software DSpace, Open Repository manages and maintains all the content contained within client repositories ensuring greater visibility for organizations and allows administrators time and freedom to concentrate on populating the repository.
Whether you are looking to outsource permanently or are looking for short-term repository assistance, Open Repository offers a flexible and cost effective service – the perfect solution for those wishing to outsource.
