Open Repository & DSpace
- a working relationship

We are often asked about the working relationship between Open Repository and DSpace.

From our launch, DSpace has always supported the idea of our using its software for a commercial hosting service and we have already received a number of plaudits from the DSpace community for our new release.

That we have been able to successfully launch 1.4.9 with so many additional features has been due to our involvement with the DSpace community. Our technical architect is a DSpace committer, who has worked extensively on the forthcoming DSpace 1.5 release, especially the new configurable browse functionality. He also sits on the DSpace architectural review group and has contributed a significant number of fixes and improvements to the code as well as working with other DSpace developers on questions and problems they are facing.

We continue to commit our own code back to DSpace to assist with the growth and development of the software.

We are committed to working as an integral part of the DSpace Foundation. Our publisher sits on the Foundation board and we will be chairing the DSpace user group meeting at next year's Open Repositories meeting in Southampton. We also intend to play a major role in the development of DSpace 2.0.
